Locating the Expansion Slots:
1. Place the open computer frame on its side with the motherboard facing up. This means you can see the motherboard from a bird's eye view. The motherboard is the biggest board you can see within the frame. It usually covers an entire side and has other smaller boards sticking up from it.
2. Looking at the motherboard, try to locate the expansion slots. Expansion slots are either long black strips or short white strips that look like Lego blocks standing up. ISA slots are black. PCI slots are white. Open slots are those that do not have other boards inserted in them.

Installing Your New Card:
1. Determine which interface (ISA or PCI) your card uses. ISA is long and the gold contacts are large. PCI is much shorter and smaller.
2. Next, check to see if the expansion slot opening next to the slot is covered. If it is, remove the cover by unscrewing it from the frame or popping it out. (IMPORTANT: Keep the screw and the slot cover.) If you have a new case that has slot covers built in you will have to remove them manually with a screwdriver. Please refer to your user manual for details.
3. When the slot cover has been removed, insert your card into the expansion slot on the motherboard. Press firmly so the entire part of the card that has the gold contacts goes completely into the expansion slot on the motherboard and will go no further. Do not use any tools to try to hammer the card in if it does not fit.
4. Make sure the side of the card resembling the expansion slot cover you just removed is covering most of the open slot.
5. Screw the card into place with the screw you removed from the expansion slot cover or a new screw.

Replacing the Case:
1. After confirming the proper placement of the card, make sure you did not leave any tools or screws within the computer. Replace the case and screw it back in place.
2. Reconnect all the cables to their proper places.

Booting Up:
1. Turn on the power.
2. Refer to your user's manual to install the proper drivers from the disk(s) that came with the card.
3. Refer to the section setting up and configuring your computer for ResNet for the settings you will need to access ResNet.

1. Click Start menu down the bottom left.
2. Click Printers, if you cannot see printers and faxes click start, then settings and you should see printers and faxes there.
3. The next screen should appear and you will see your printer.
4. Right click your printer and click properties
5. The following will appear, next to the general tab click on sharing.
6. This is where you create your share name for your printer. Click on the radio button that says share this printer.
7. This is the unique name you create for your printer to be shared on the network, so make sure it is something simple and easy to remember. I have used “Dellprinter” for this example. This is case sensitive meaning you have to write exactly where you have put capital letters and lower case letters.
8. Then simply click ok, your printer is now shared.
9. Now for your network to access the printer you need to follow these steps.
Figure out your computer name, so simply right click my computer on your desktop and click properties.
10. The following window will appear.
11. Next to the general tab click computer name.

12. From here click on the change button down the bottom right.
13. You will then see your computer name, write this down somewhere so you don’t forget.
14. Click start down the bottom left
15. Then click on printers and faxes again if you cannot see it click on start, settings then printers and faxes.

16. The following window will appear on the left hand side you will see add a printer. Single click on that icon.
17. Hit the next button.
18. By default it selects local printer attached to this printer, you need to select the radio button which says a network printer, or a printer attached to another computer.
19. Once you have selected a network printer click next at the bottom right.
20. Select the radio button that says connect to this printer.
21. For the name this is where your computer name goes as well as the printer share name we created earlier. So I would type \\Deano\Dellprinter, Yours would be \\computername\shareprintername. This is case sensitive remember type it exactly how you wrote it down.
21. Once you have typed in your correct computer name and printer name hit the next button, if for some reason it pops up with a username and password just enter your username and password you use to log in to windows with.
Finshed , You have now successfully added a network printer!

Forgot Windows XP Password

There are two ways, which you can use to reset the forgotten Windows XP password. I have used both the both the methods at different times, when I forgot my Windows XP password. Both of them proved to be useful.

Forgot Windows XP Password - User Password
  • When we install Windows on our machine, it automatically creates a default account with the name ‘Administrator’ and sets it password to blank. To reset the user password that you have forgotten, start the system and when you see the Windows Welcome screen or the login scree, press CTRL+ALT+DEL keys twice.
  • With this the classic login box will appear.
  • Now you will make use of the Administrator account, that the system had created by the machine. Type in Administrator in the Username text box and leave the password field blank. Then press enter.
  • With this you will be able to log into the system. Now is the time to reset the forgotten Windows XP password.
  • Go to the Control Panel and from their go to User Accounts and change the password from the option reset password. If you start the machine in the safe mode, you will use the same steps.
Forgot Windows XP Administrator Password

  • If you have forgotten the Administrator password, you have a longer procedure to follow. You will need the Windows XP setup CD for the same. Boot the system using the Windows XP setup CD and follow the instructions, like accepting EULA, etc.
  • You will come to an option, where the system will ask you to repair existing Windows installation. Accept it and then press the ‘R’ key to run the repair version.
  • When you press the ‘R’ key, the system will under take the repair Windows.
  • Once the repair is done, the system will restart. When the system restarts, do not press any key, even if the system says ‘Press any key to continue...’. If you press any key, the setup will start from the beginning, but if you do not press any key, the set up will resume, from where it left.
  • Keep an eye on the screen, when you see ‘Installing devices’ on the progressbar, press Shift + F10 keys on the keyboard.
  • With this the Command Prompt window will appear.
  • Type nusrmgr.cpl on the command prompt and press the Enter key.
  • With the ‘User Accounts’ window will appear, now you have the option of either removing or resetting the password.
  • There are also some utilities, that are available in the market, that you can make use of. Once you forgot Windows XP password and have it reset, you will realize, it is not as difficult a task, as you had thought it to be. However, this also means, that your system is not safe, as you would really want it to be. Maybe Microsoft will take some time to overcome the loophole.
